Accessible pedestrian button is a product developed for sight or hearing impaired pedastrians. This product aims to ensure the safety of visual or hearing-impaired pedestrians and raise their living standards. Accesible pedestrian button is a system that informs audiences visually or vocally according to the status of pedestrian traffic signal. This system provides the safety of people with disabilities, raises the standard of living of people with disabilities and contributes to the country's economy through the fact that it is a totally national product of Turkey.
In accessible pedestrian systems, it is possible to be able to see the current status of traffic signal thanks to illuminated button, to feel the demand of the button thanks to the vibration motor, to be able to direct the pedestrian by audible notifications, to be able to determine the sound level at certain time intervals for all days of the week, to adjust the sound level according to the outside noise level and to automatically detect the number of flashes, to detect the status of the traffic light by sensing circuit, to play sound files embedded in micro SD card and to transfer audio files via USB port.
In 2012, we started our first research and development work for the first national accesible pedestrian button. In 2014, the first accessible pedestrian button site assembly was carried out in Istanbul. The first field application in Istanbul was performed in 2005 at SSK Okmeydanı Pedestrian Crossing.
A total of 601 signalized intersections were equipped with accessible pedestrian buttons in the city. At these junctions, 1440 plaques were laid out which have the intersection geometries written with Braille alphabet on their surface.
