European Mobility Week is celebrated every year since 2002, between 16th and 22nd of September to encourage public authorities around the world to develop sustainable and environmentally friendly transport measures, to raise public awareness and to encourage local people to use clean, environmentally friendly transportation methods by giving up their daily habits. The week was celebrated with the participation of 2526 cities from 50 countries this year. During the week, the Transportation Department of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) organized several activities related to this year's "Clean, Shared and Smart Mobility" theme.

Within the scope of European Mobility Week, two bicycle tours were organized by the IMM to raise awareness of the use of bicycles as a means of transportation and to promote the use of bicycles as a healthy, clean, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation in urban areas. Besides the use of bicycle as a means of transport, "Bike Cargo " event was organized by IMM to demonstrate that bikes can be used for cargo transport and can be integrated with other public transport modes as an environmental transport means.

On Wednesday, September 20th, official documents of the IMM’s Transportation Department were carried by Cemal Orhan who is IMM’s staff and a member of Istanbul Bicycle Association. The official documents were carried from IMM’s Bakırköy Additional Service Building to IMM’s Main Building in Saraçhane by bicycle. The cyclist Cemal Orhan also transferred to a metro between Zeytinburnu and Aksaray and delivered the documents to relevant units. Thus, the IMM Transportation Department contributed to clean transportation in Istanbul by delivering its official documents by bicycle which is an environmentally friendly means of transportation.
