Smart Parking System is a LED-based  dynamic traffic information system developed by Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Department of Transportation. The LED-based information systems are used to provide real-time occupancy information of the closest parking lots to drivers on the roads. Thanks to this system, drivers will be able to see the closest parking lots on their way and the parking space availability easily. Drivers will no longer waste time, gas to find parking lots and the system will help reduce traffic congestion in Istanbul.

What Is Smart Parking System?

"Smart Parking System" is one of  the innovative Intelligent Transportation Systems of IMM which show live availability information of the nearest parking lots on the main roads in Istanbul. Smart Parking System gets live occupancy information of parking lots from IMM’s Traffic Control Center and show them on LED screens embedded on traffic signs. Using Smart Parking Systems, IMM intends to facilitate drivers to find closest parking lots on their routes and avoid losing time, fuel consumption in traffic and reduce traffic congestion. Smart Parking Systems will also contribute to minimize stress which drivers face due to finding parking lots in congested traffic.

Live parking lots’ occupancy information is displayed on LED screens to drivers and updated 24/7 using live data transferred from IMM’s Traffic Control Center. Drivers will be able to access live occupancy information of the parking lots directly via LED displays on the traffic signs. 

Using desktop and internet based applications developed by Traffic Control Center engineers, locations of Smart Parking Systems and live parking lots’ information can be displayed and monitored remotely.
